For most teams: Replicate edges ahead on our scoring

Replicate

starter
Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps

Run open-source AI models via API — thousands of image, video, and audio models with one HTTP call.

Pay-per-second. Example: Flux [schnell] ~$0.003/image. LLaMA 3 70B ~$0.65/1M tokens. Dedicated instances available.

Datadog

professional
Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps

Unified observability platform — infra monitoring, APM, logs, RUM, synthetics, security, and now LLM observability.

Free: 5 hosts, 1-day retention. Pro: $15/host/month. Enterprise: $23/host/month. Logs, APM, RUM, etc. priced separately.

ReplicateCAUTIOUS-BUY
The marketplace for open-source AI models

Replicate makes it trivially easy to run open-source models via API. Cold starts and pricing at scale are the recurring complaints, but for prototyping and specialty models there's nothing better.

DatadogCAUTIOUS-BUY
The default observability platform — and the cost of default

Datadog owns enterprise observability. APM, logs, metrics, RUM, security all work. The pricing is genuinely brutal at scale, and the alternatives (Grafana Cloud, Honeycomb, Coroot) have gotten serious enough to evaluate.

Choose Replicate if...

Product teams adding AI features with open-weights models (Flux, LLaMA, Whisper) without building their own inference stack. Especially strong for image/video/audio.

Avoid Replicate if...

High-volume workloads where cost-per-token matters — Together AI and Fireworks have cheaper LLM inference at scale.

Choose Datadog if...

Enterprises that want a single pane of glass across infra, apps, and security and can budget for the bill.

Avoid Datadog if...

Cost-sensitive startups — observability bills balloon quickly; Grafana Cloud or self-hosted Prometheus + Loki often fit better.
